The ring of wind-chimes resonated throughout the cave, the metal decorations swaying back and forth to an unseen breeze. Deeper within the cave, the sound of the steady crash of waves permeated the air, alongside the scent of salt.
Pools of water dotted the craggy floor, each an underwater tunnel leading out of the cave, a pocket under the sea. From one of these pools, a Seawing pulled themselves out, gasping as they thudded onto the ground. The cave was pitch black, but with night vision, that issue was obsolete.
Shaking their head, water droplets flinging about, they muttered;
“Well, this seems to be the right place.”
Composing themselves, the green-scaled dragon began to follow the etchings on the wall, telling undecipherable stories, if they even were that. Wandering deeper in, the ringing of the wind-chimes grew fainter, but the crash of waves began to thunder.
The Seawing found themselves at a door of sorts, it was more just a cloth curtain hanging from the ceiling, a formal separation. Pushing it aside, they entered the chamber behind it. Here the crash of waves was loudest, yet oddly soothing, familiar.
The chamber was dome-shaped, the walls smooth yet engraved with flowing patterns that swirled to the ceiling. There was a table near the middle, carved from bone. The Seawing didn’t want to consider what beast it was sourced from.
Upon the table, there was a lonely seashell. Its only companion was a strange purple hat? The Seawing peered closer at the shell, it seemed to be the source of the sound of waves. It was in their distraction they didn’t notice a dragon was there until they coughed behind them.
It took the algae green dragon much restraint to not jump and yelp in surprise. Turning around while trying to calm their thumping heartbeat, they glanced over the other dragon.
It was a fellow Seawing, but instead of green, dark blues to near purple painted their scales. Golden chain bracelets decorated their front limbs, and on their wings were glowing patterns of eyes. Eyes that seemed to stare right at home. But the most striking was their face.
Smooth pearls took the place of their eyes, faint scars around the sockets. Regardless, those pearls seemed to gaze far beyond him, weighing him. The green Seawing didn’t appreciate the feeling they were judged wanting.
He had a guess this was the Oracle he was searching for.
“Just a tad rude to enter someone’s home without invitation.” She spoke, voice amused.
He tried to reply but only stammered out an awkward “Uh.”
“Just a tad rude.” She chuckled. But her expression hardened.
“But in all seriousness, what do you want.” In the following silence, he realized the waves' sound was gone.
“Well, I, uh, I, kindaneedyourhelp” He said the last part as quickly as he could.
The purple Seawing sighed.
“Ah, of course. Sounds about right. I only ask at this point for formality's sake. It’s always ‘find this thing for me’ or ‘will I get a lover’ or ‘will I achieve meaning in my life?’. You know, the rote and the vain. Or downright depressing. I am rambling, aren’t I”
“No, you’re fine, you’re fine. I’m sorry I shouldn’t have bothered you.” Awkwardness filled his chest, and he was rather eager to head back to the tunnel he entered from and leave.
“Well, you’re here now. Say your part, and lets get it over with.”
The green Seawing cleared their throat while wishing to be anywhere else.
“You see,” He winced right as he said the words, just remembering her predicament, “ah, my Father was a relic hunter, and before he passed away, he left me this map.”
“A map?” She seemed greatly amused by this fact, and he couldn’t figure out why.
“Yes, a map, a very cryptic one- Oh.” He figured out why. Yup, it was time to jump into a volcano before he embarrassed himself further. Moons, he was a fumbling idiot.
“Imma just go”
Oracle called out behind him as he dejectedly slunk out of the chamber.
“The place you’re looking for, search the Ilinota Reef. You’ll find more clues there.”
He paused but continued out with a bit more hope in his step.
As he left, Oracle broke into a massive grin and had to stifle her guffaws. Underneath the purple hat, three white orbs etched with silver eyes zipped out. Once comfortably orbiting Oracle, they turned and looked at her expectantly.
She kindly obliged her curious hovering trio.
“It's been quite a long time since I’ve witnessed a fellow so incredibly flustered. Reminds me of that one nice waitress. Ah, he’s gonna be up late at night thinking about this. One of the few good perks of the whole deal.” She chuckled a bit more before heading back to her room, away from the chamber.
As she left, the sounds of the beach resumed once more.
